DWT Diversity

Kristen Bates

Associate

Hometown: Portland, Ore.

Year you joined DWT: 2007

How you describe your work to a kid: I help telecommunications companies build new sites so that your phone or iPad can work faster and in more places.

Diversity hero: Shirley Chisholm. She was determined to create change for women and African Americans in the face of huge opposition.

Why you serve on the diversity committee: There were few resources for attorneys returning from parental leave when I returned after having my first child in 2010. Now DWT offers various support for re-integrating. I want to make even greater strides for new parents re-entering firm life.

Personal goal in five years: Be a role model for balance between work and home life.
